Citizenship

How we learn citizenship? This was the topic of three lessons with Henrik. We knew some different ways, how we taught it. What tools we had, and how we used it.
First we read the Obama speech. This speech had a lot of good points and some inconsistency. Fist we found the key words about the good citizenship:
Trustful
Sacrifices
Freedom
Risk-taker
The rights of man
Cooperation
etc.
But there were mentioned some ambiguous things, like: leadership.
If I’m a democratic man, could I have the feel that I would like to be a leader?
I think the citizenship has a lot of danger which are incalculable.
The human development is very fast and therefore a lot of people live together in the big metropolises. But the human psyche isn’t ready for this. We saw a lot of deviant in the society, who didn’t respect the rules, and the culture. And these people didn’t know what they did in these situations. I think these behaviors are necessary, but we don’t know yet how we could help and manage these people. Because I thought the reason why they exist, is the metropolis, and this fast growth.
And we had another discussion, how we respect each other?
It’s not so easy. For example in our house we want to try to live together and respect each other, but after this respect wasn’t bilateral, and after we told “Enough”, we tried to discuss and solve the problem and it looks like we managed to do it, but after we realized that the others continued it behind us. Therefore now we had a “cold war” feeling here.
Therefore I think it is so easy. Because when somebody tries to respect others and to be very polite but others abuse continuously, and exploit us, than what the next step is.? If these respect is not bilateral you can’t do anything, and you miss the trust.
But this doesn’t solve the problem.
Maybe the teaching is very important, but it is very hard to change the human behavior. But the children’s minds are very plastic. The next generation will able to change. Therefore it is very important how we teach citizenship. Why are important values: the respect, the freedom, and where is the border of the human behavior?

I think freedom of the thinking is very important just as the freedom of speech, but not the freedom of the act. Because I think it is my business if I don’t like somebody, but I never hit them or deplete them. This is the border I think.

Hystory lesson

We was a very good history lesson with Jorn. He showed us to the Danish history and the contacts with our coutries. We focused not only for the happening. Try to fined out the reasons.
First in our plan was only two history lesson, but after we got an other one. It was about the DDay. I was remember a lot of facts from my study but learned a lot of new things as well. I really enjoyed these lessons. And finally his messege for the world, why he becamed a history teacher:
"You always watch your way, and never turn back. Learn the past, but build the new future!"

Democracy in the class

I will be a Math teacher, and it’s one of the most difficult subjects in the school and university. Because usually a lot of students think that: “I’m stupid for the Mathematic”. Therefore the teaching method is not so easy, because students have a lot of stereotypes about Math.
The question is how I teach this subject in a democratic way, because the students do not think that we are in a same level?
Fist we need to see which are the tools, that a democratic teacher uses:
- Respect each other
- Discussion of the problems
- No bulling
- No stress
- Feedback
- Circle
- Evaluation
- Work together with students/parents/colleagues
We discuss a lot with the classmates about these questions, and theories, but see what I use in every day in my lessons what is working:??
- Feedback
I think it’s very important for a teacher, especially for a Math teacher, because to understand and explain Math is not so easy and similar for every student. Therefore the student’s feedback is needed for the teacher. When I ask feedback, my students write the opinions in a paper without names, and they evaluate our work. I learn a lot from these feedbacks.
- Same rights
If they want, they use mobile, and eat or drink during the lesson. It’s free for everybody, like for me too. It is interesting that it is enough this knowledge that they can do whatever they want, because usually nobody does it.
- Exams
I think a very good feedback for the students if they write exams, because they know what they know, and what are those things that they need to learn better. A lot of students don’t like the exams, but our students want to write it, because they know it is for them!
- Common goals
In the first lesson we discuss a lot about why we are together. And this time we decide what we want to do, and what our goals are. Therefore, the learning is not a pressure for my student, it’s a possibility and they will be more after the course.

That’s it. I hope I will be better for the teaching, and the students who meet with me think that: "I understand the Math, and it’s not so dangerous, like I thought!"

Cultural changes

One of our lessons we had a discussion about the changes of life in some area with Torbjorn. These were:

Family / Housing
Education / Job
Technology
International relations
Food culture

We analyzed it through three generations, and talked about our plans in the future, how we would like to do it.

About the familyMy grandparents had a long married life. My parents unfortunately divorced. And I hope, I will follow my grandparent’s pattern and I will have a long married life too.
But the question that we discussed: Why are things changing?
I thing the human life spells about changing. Each person in their own life is looking for values which are important. The last years the people wanted to find their identity. And therefore many times they mixed up the dependence and the pressure. Because they think if they have husband, or they have a child he/she depends on them. But this dependence is not a bad thing. In the human life there are a lot of things, which we depend on. The air, the water or when we born we depend on our mother, and when we will be old, we will depend on the pills, and the peoples who will take care of us. Why is a problem if I depend on my wife, my husband, my friends etc. This dependence is not a pressure. This is the human behavior. We are a common entity. We need to belong to someone. The solution of this problem could be, if the man who with me that man with who I would like to be. ?And this is a difficult question but maybe this is the reason why people go to second life, in that place it is easier to be a man who you want to be.

Education / Job
I think the education system changed a lot in the last years. And this is not only the technical changes. The goals of the education had changed as well. We have a lot of new tools, and theories how to teach. One of the problems could be the teacher’s behavior. How we teach teaching.
The other side of this topic is the job. Today the most preferred job is the manger position in Hungary. A lot of people would like to earn a lot of money with less work. If they manage to do this, would they learn to appreciate what they do? And if they have a lot of money, they don’t know what do with this. And change a lot of things in their environment. New shoes, clothes, new car, change boyfriend/girlfriend but they don’t feel happy. And they don’t understand why is so boring for them everything.

Technology
The technological development is faster and faster. And the new generation uses it a lot, but for the oldest it is not so easy because they never meet with this before, and they are not able to learn it. Some of them want to use it, and learn, but some of them think: “I have only few years left therefore I don’t want to learn new things.”

International relations
I think it is linked together with the technology because the technological advance indicates this possibility. We have Internet; we have airplane system so the distance is not a problem anymore. Earth will be smaller and smaller.

Food culture
Due to the medicine advance, it gets clear there are some unhealthy meals and it indicates a change in the food culture. It’s natural and inescapable but for example in Hungary, we have a lot of unhealthy traditional food and it could be a problem. What should we do now? Should we forget our traditions? I don’t know which the good way is.

International Week

International week

This week was a mixture of lot of different cultures. We had some different values and lot of common values. The most important I thought that everybody who was here wanted to have a better future and this was a common goal, as the name of our course showed: living and learning together. This fact that we are able to learn from each other and to live together to create a better world.
I emphasized only one thing of this week: The discussion.
We have a common goal, to live together, but it’s not so easy, because we have different history, religions, and the words that we use, and what we speak have different meanings in every culture. And this is the point where we need to learn a lot, how to understand each other.
One of my favorite books is: The little prince. In this book there is a scene where the fox says to the prince: “Words are the source of misunderstandings.” Exupéry
Therefore was very good the music lesson, because the music was a common language with the same understanding. We used instruments. It was a good way for children and I thought it was very important to try it. We needed to draw the music, we had to make a puzzle about the music. And the best was that we had to compose music. We give the paper about the music what we need to compose?. And we need to compose the feeling in music, and after others could imagine!

ICT

Before this course I used weblogs, but only for teaching, never for expressing myself. Therefore it was a new situation for me. First I thought we only write weblogs, but after I saw, these lesson more than how to create a blog.
It was a very funny situation, because I have a company, and we make web pages, but I didn’t know this other functions of the Internet. Which functions I’m talking about?
Bookmarks, Free online photo editors, Web galleries etc.
I think these tools help people to get closer each other. (nem kell a make)
But, these pages destroy a little bit people’s intimate area. We show our own feelings, our history, and not only to our friends, but to everybody, who can use web. I think it’s a little bit problematic, because I’m not sure that I want that anybody knows about my life.
But why do these people do?Maybe we are many and every person feels lonely in the crush. That’s why people would like to let a sign on the web: “I’m here, and I’m alive here”.
In the lesson we played an online game, which name is “Second life”. It’s a good possibility to meet people, who have no other possibility to get in contact.
But I ask again, why we need a second life?
I tried during the lesson, and I thought I have only one life, and I want to enjoy it in the real world. But why do people choose this way of life? Maybe because here they can be who they want. And I think it could be a problem: Why can I be only in an artificial world that person who I want?
People spend a lot of money to buy their own identity in Second life.
After trying this program this was my feeling and if people join and live there, it’s their choices. Everybody can enjoy life as he/she wants.

Music lesson

This lesson was very good. I like listening to music and sing. We learned some Danish songs, and also we taught to each other some songs from our country.
We played rhythm games what was a little bit boring, because we repeated one rhythm for very long time. It was interesting that the teacher did not realized this problem, because I thought a teacher should realize what is going on and react for the situation, but unfortunately she did not. I thought a lesson not working so good if somebody have a scenario, and doesn’t able to change that. I saw, then she prepared a lot for this lesson, and it was very good, but she could have changed it if she saw the plan is not performing very well. But it’s not so easy to realize it the lesson not in his/her native language therefore I think it was not a general problem, only a little misunderstanding because of English.
I thought one of the best was in this lesson when we listened to music and talked about feelings. We needed to write a story and show as a drama.I enjoyed very much the choir, and didn’t understand the others why cancelled it. But this is the Democracy, isn’t it?

23 February 2009

Languages and Identity

We did a very interesting task at the lesson that I enjoyed very much. We got a drawing of a body frame and we needed to paint it with different colors. And we needed to write the meaning of each color. But the teacher was not so happy, because I did it in a different way, than she expected.
That is why I was a little bit disappointed, because it was not the first time when the teacher was disappointed, because the student did differently the task as he/she expected. I think it’s a little discrepancy, because they teach the freedom of speech and democracy, but when I do something different, which is also true, then the teacher will be dismissive. And I don not know why.
I think this is maybe the problem of human behavior. The teacher want to be individualist, but I think it’s not a good pedagogy, because students are open to the world, and do not know precisely all the time what the teacher wants and this brakes down the students and it’s not good.
And now, see my picture:
The meaning
Light blue: The Hungarian identity, I speak and think a lot in Hungarian
Dark blue: English, I learn to think and speak in English
Yellow: This is my opened part of the brain; I don’t know what the future will bring to me
My heart is the Earth, because I live on this planet, and I think this is my home.
White: The entire world, because I think my body is an instrument which is very similar to others body, and the body language is that means almost the same in the whole world.

Kalvo

This day, we was very tired, therefore we went only a little walking, in a small island, what name is Kalvo. After that, I cooked (my assistant was Noemi) a very good lunch and we played Bonanza in the afternoon. (Bonanza a very good card game.)

Arhus

This is a big city in Denmark. We went with others by bus and train.
When we arrived, first we went to the old town. It's not a real town, because the houses were transported here from all the country. We saw a log of old shops, and manufactories and discovered the old life in Denmark.
The next stage was the Cathedral. It same like the other Cathedrals in Denmark, but here is the biggest ship in Denmark. (Every Danish church has a ship dummy.)After we wanted to find the Latin quarter, but our tourist guide didn't find the way, therefore we just walked random on the streets. When finished this intermezzo, the others went to the art museum, but we (Noemi, Carsten and me) sit in a cafes, to relax a little bit. After we joined to the others and visited the museum. It was interesting, but the modern art not will be my favorite. For example the horse, was amazing. But the other exhibitions were good.End of the day, we went back to Haredslev, and everybody slept in the train and bus.

Ribe - Romo

At Saturday we went to a great tour for Riba. There we have visited the Viking museum.

Riba was a very great commercial centre, because it was near the see. A lot of craft was here, and we discovered the past about this trade city.

The followings lived here long-long years ago:

Potter
Glassblower
Furrier
And some other….This museum was a little disappointed because I expected for Viking warriors, and battleships, and armour (I'm a man!), but here was only other cultural thing. These was interesting too, but not that what I waiting for.

After the museum we walked to the city. First of all we have visited a post, where was some sign. At the beginning of the last century was some big storms here and that time the sea was very high and the city was under the water sometimes.

After we went to the cathedral, visited it and went to up to the tower. The whether was foggy but we didn't afraid, right Carsten saw a ghost again (Carsten a medium, because every place somewhere we go together he saw a ghost).

When we leaved Riba we went to the sea to Romo. It's an island whit a very great sandy beach. We saw a lot of shells and sea stars. But there was fog and we didn't see eachother only hear the voices. We was in the beach about one hour, and after we didn't find the car, because we lost in the fog.

But finally we find the car, and went back home.
